Daily Affirmations

You are well-rested and excited for each day—even when you aren’t.
Heading straight toward your bathroom, you look to the branches peeking through the third-floor window. Their jagged edges break up the deep blue sheet with even darker protrusions. As your coffee slowly brings you to life, the empty branches also become dressed in the warmth of the daily sun.
When you moved in ten years ago, the sunlight was never quite as bright as the one you feel now. You are grateful for the changes that come with age.
Today is going to be extremely busy, but you will succeed because you are prepared. While packing your lunch and looking out the kitchen window, you see the trunk of your dying tree and beam after spotting fungi growing from its cracks. How beautiful and intriguing decay can be… if only it wasn’t your tree.
You are optimistic because each day is a gift. Remember when birds and berries scattered the yard and sang with the sun? They don’t flock here anymore, but at least the holly leaves won’t stab your feet when you’re barefoot.
The empty tree sags and branches drop after a light rain. While hauling bags of supplies to your car, you trip on them. The cycles of life exist to build your character. You are tired but don’t stop now. You are growing. You are determined. You are capable. You are fierce.
How beautiful and intriguing growth can be… if only it wasn’t me.
